What is a shipping policy?

A shipping policy is a policy that describes to your customers what they can expect when they order from you. Shipping policies are an integral part of building trust with customers, giving them the confidence to make a purchase.

Within your policy, you can detail how your shipping process works, the different options you have available, while also detailing expected delivery timeframes.

What should I put in my shipping policy?

Below are some general guidelines as to what you could include in your shipping policy; however, your shop is unique, so do what’s right for your customers. Making sure you have an FAQ available can be useful to customers too!

  • What shipping options are available (overnight, standard, airmail, international, domestic only, etc.),
  • How much each shipping method will cost the customer
  • How long each shipping method will typically take
  • How long your handling time will be between when an order is placed and when it gets shipped
  • If orders must be placed before a specific time to be counted as having been placed during that business day
  • Any restrictions to where you can deliver (no P.O. boxes, not to specific states, etc.),
  • Anything else that would be material to a customer when placing an order
